What is the Swish-Hoop™ Coach’s App?

The Swish Hoop™ Coach’s App is a subscription-based web app that is used to assemble Swish Hoop™ players into team rosters, review stats, videos, and leaderboards, assign goals and set alarms for specified team members, design, copy, edit and share original team drills and leaderboards, view messages, and upload, view and annotate videos of team members. The Swish Hoop™ Coach’s App runs on virtually any device that has access to the internet including smartphones, tablets, PCs and Macs. The device must be connected to the internet through either Wi-Fi or a cellular connection. This FAQ page describes the details of the Swish Hoop™ Coach’s App.

How do I get the Swish-Hoop™ Coach’s App?

The Swish Hoop™ Coach’s App may be purchased here. Upon purchasing, you will be sent a customized invitation by email to create a team and start using the app.

How do I change or reset my password?

On the login screen, click/tap “Lost Password?” or just click here.

How do I set up my team information on the Coach’s App?

Upon your first visit to the Coach’s App, you will be brought to the Edit Team screen or if you want to edit your team information at any time, click/tap “Team” on the right side of the Team Admin menu bar near the top of the page. On the Edit Team screen, you will be able to input the following, then click/tap the “Save” button:

  • Team name
  • Team name on scoreboard (abbreviated name –try to keep it less than 6 characters)
  • Your role – choose from the available titles on the pulldown menu
  • City, State, Postal (Zip) Code, Country
  • Team details – use the pulldown menus. For Season and year, use either just the year or hyphenated years like 2034-35. For the League/conference, carefully put in the precise name of your league.
  • Logo – Don’t forget to upload an image of your team’s mascot or logo.

What if I participate on more than one team?

You can coach or play on multiple teams and access them all within the Swish Hoop™ Coach’s App. As long as each of the teams has been set up, you can switch between them by clicking/tapping the “Home” menu item at the top of the screen.

How do I set up my team roster on the Coach’s App?

The Roster screen shows all the members of the team (players, coaches, scorekeepers, etc.) and their roles. After setting up the information for your team, you will be brought to the Roster page. Team members must be invited to join the team and they must accept in order to appear on your team roster.

Inviting Players to the Team

Click/tap “Team” on the right side of the Team Admin menu bar near the top of the page, then click/tap “+Add team member”. There are two ways to invite others to join the team:

  • For players who are currently Swish Hoop™ registered users, search for them by typing their name into the “Lookup players” box and click/tap “Search”.
  • For player who have not yet registered as a Swish Hoop™ users, type their email into the “Invite by Email” box and click/tap “Send Invite”. Email will then be sent with an invite link to which the user should respond by clicking the “Join Team” button in the email. The user will have to create a player profile on Swish-Hoop (either through the Swish Hoop™ Player App on their mobile device or online here).

Filling in Player Information

Once players have accepted your invitation, they will appear in your roster and you may edit their team membership information by clicking/tapping Edit to the right of their name:

  • Jersey number – either type in their jersey number or “None”
  • Status – either active, inactive, injured or graduated
  • Include in Stats – this should be checked for players on the team so their stats will be included in team stats and team leaderboards. If coaches record their own shots that they do not want part of the team stats or leaderboards, then this should not be checked. If coaches use their account to record team stats, then it probably should be checked. Team members with this box checked will have a small line-graph icon under their name in the roster screen.
  • Team admin – checking this box allows the designated team member to edit all information about the team, including each of its members. It also allows them to create new drills and set Goals and Alerts for others. It is recommended that only adult supervisors/coaches be designated as Team Admins.

Using the Checkboxes on the Roster Screen

In addition to the Roster screen showing all the members of the team and their roles, the checkboxes next to the players and player roles are important indicators used to customize the viewing of stats (for just those checked), and setting goals (see here) and alarms (see here), which are sent to just those players checked. To view the stats for the entire team, click/tap the Team Stats button on the right just above the list of names. To view the stats for a portion of the team, click/tap the checkboxes next to the players or positions you would like to include. Then tap the new button that appears on the right just above the list of names “View Stats on Selected Players.” See here for more on customizing stats displays.

How do I remove a player from our team or edit his/her information?

Any Team Admin can edit information related to a team member or remove that member from the team. Non-Admin team members cannot make any changes to the team. From the Roster page, locate the team member and click/tap “Edit” towards the right on that member’s information line. You will be able to change any information related to the player’s relationship with the team, but not that player’s personal information. Only the player can do that from the player’s personal account. To remove a player from the team, click/tap the “Remove Player from Team” button at the bottom of the page.

How do I edit my personal information?

Click/tap the profile picture in the upper right corner of the Coach’s App, then click/tap “My Profile”. From here you can edit any of your personal information and upload a picture that will appear next to your name across all Swish Hoop™ apps.

How do I see the combined stats from last week for our point guard’s free throws? (Stats Description)

In the Coach’s App, you can select the players for whom you want to see combined or single stats by going to the Roster page and clicking/tapping the check box next to the players or positions you want (for example “Point Guards”). Then click/tap “View Stats on Selected Players” button at the upper right.

Stats Charts

Two types of charts are shown in the Stats screen: a shot chart on the left and a line graph of shooting percentages by date on the right. The shot chart shows the percentage makes by color heat map. Red is hot (>89%), blue is cold (<11%) and pale yellow is around 50%). It indicates how many shots were taken at each location by the diameter of the colored spot (fewer than 50 shots are small and more than 500 shots are large). Tapping, or hovering over a spot shows the stats from that location.

Stats Shot Types and Dates

Once you are viewing the stats on the Stats screen, you can specify the drill types (for example “Free Throw Drills”) to be included (click/tap the “All Drills” pulldown menu at the top) and any custom date range by clicking/tapping the “Custom Date Range” button on the upper right (select start and end dates or a timeframe like “Last 7 Days”). You can also see stats from a particular date by just clicking/tapping a point in the line graph, which will then show all of the stats from drills from that day.

Stats for Individual Drill Sessions

Individual drill sessions may then be viewed (click/tap the “View” button on the right) by selecting from the list below the charts of all sessions included in the stats on the Stats screen. This displays the Session Details screen, which shows the drill name, date and a bar chart of shooting percentage along the top, a shot chart on the left and a set of colored shapes, representing individual shots, on the right. Goals (makes) are indicated in green and misses are indicated in red. A green circle indicates a make that was a swish. Tapping, or hovering over a shot (makes, misses and swishes) shows the location in the shot chart where that shot was taken. Tapping, or hovering over a spot in the shot chart highlights all of the shots taken from that location and shows the stats from that location. Along the top of the shots is a summary of the session, showing the total number of makes, the longest streak (string of makes) and the total number of swishes. If a video was recorded of the session, then clicking/tapping any of the individual shots will display the video for just that shot.

Stats for Individual Players

On the Stats screen, at the bottom of the list of the drill sessions that comprise the stats in the charts, is a list of all the team members that are included. To see the stats from a single team member, click/tap the “View Stats” button to the right of their name. Stats for individual team members may also be viewed by clicking/tapping the “View Stats” button for that member on the Roster screen.

How do I see videos of team members’ shots that were recorded?

First, from the Roster page, select the player for whom you want to see the video recording, as described in the previous FAQ. Find the session you want to view from the Sessions list below and click/tap the “View” button on the right for that session. The video for individual shots will automatically be shown when the square or circle for an individual shot is clicked/tapped. If no video is recorded for that shot, then there will be no result from clicking/tapping the shot.

How do I create a custom team drill in the Swish-Hoop™ Coach’s App?

Within the Coach’s App, new Team Drills may be created by coaches or other Team Admins for their team. Team members who have not been designated as Team Admins cannot create new drills. Team Drills are only accessible by team members (they are not visible to other Swish Hoop™ users). To create a Team Drill, click/tap “Drills” from the Team Admin menu bar near the top of the page (do not confuse this with the “Drills” menu item at the very top of the page), then click/tap “+ New Team Drill”. New team drills may also be created by clicking/tapping the “Create Team Drill” button on the upper right of the Team Drill screen. This brings up the “Create Drill” screen, where the Name, Description, Drill type and any Demo video may be input.

Create Your Own Drill

Fill in all the entries on the Create Drill screen. It is recommended that a descriptive name and a very clear Description be used. When drills are listed, your team name will be appended to the beginning of your typed Drill Name. The Drill Type may be a drill that instructs players to Shoot N Shots, Make N Shots or Shoot for N Seconds. For drills with shots from different locations on the court, the Drill Type “Shoot N Shots” will use a designated number of shots before positions are changed, while the Drill Type “Make N Shots” will used a designated number of makes before positions are changed. The Drill Type, “Shoot for N Seconds,” uses a designated time to count down until the end of the drill and a designated number of shots to switch positions on the court. Only a single countdown time may be used in a timed drill. Multiple countdown timings may be accomplished by defining a Workout utilized multiple timed drills.

Define the Shots within Your Drill

After the “Create” button is clicked/tapped, the Drill Shots screen appears. Click/tap “+ Add Shot” then select the court position from where the shot should be taken (not where the player starts, but where the ball is released) by either selecting from the dropdown menu or by clicking/tapping on the court diagram on the right. Then input the number of shots or makes and click/tap the “Save” button. Continue to add shots until the drill is completed.

Create a New Drill by Copying Another

A second method for creating a drill is to copy an existing drill to a new drill name, then edit that new drill. This is a convenient method if the new drill has only incremental changes from another drill. To copy and edit a drill, first find the original drill by clicking/tapping “Drills” from the top menu (not Team Admin menu) line. Locate the drill of interest and click/tap the “View Drill” button. When a coach or other Team Admin views a drill, they are able to copy that drill to a new team drill by clicking/tapping the “Copy Drill to ”. Then click/tap “Edit Name and Description” for the newly copied drill. In the Edit Drill screen, it is recommended that at least the name of the drill be changed in order to avoid confusion. When drills are listed, your team name will be appended to the beginning of your typed Drill Name. To change the shots within the drill, click/tap the “Edit Shots” button from the View Drill screen.

How do I share my custom team drills with other teams?

Coaches and other Team Admins can share team drills with other Swish Hoop™ coaches and assistant coaches. To share a drill, start by viewing the list of all team drills: click/tap “Drills” at the top of the Roster page, then select the team from the line under the “Drills” title where the drill is listed. Accessing the drill from the “All Drills” list will not let you share drills. Click/tap the “View Drill” button for the drill you want to share from the listed drills, then the “Share” button at the top of the View Drill page. You can then search for the name of the coach or assistant coach by typing into the “Find coach” box and clicking/tapping the “Search” button. Locate the coach with whom you want to share the drill and click/tap the “Share Drill” button to the right of their name. This will email the coach, allowing them to accept the drill, which will create a copy for their team.

How do I create custom team leaderboards in the Swish-Hoop™ Coach’s App?

Within the Coach’s App, new Team Leaderboards may be created by coaches or other Team Admins for their team. Team members who have not been designated as Team Admins cannot create new leaderboard. Coaches may want to design a new leaderboard, for example, if they have challenged the team to work on a specific drill that is not ordinarily measured in a leaderboard. This can create an incentive for players to try to be the best performing player for that drill for a given week or throughout the season. Team Leaderboards are only accessible by team members (they are not visible to other Swish Hoop™ users).

Create Your Own Leaderboard

To create a Team Leaderboard, click/tap “Leaderboards” from the Team Admin menu bar near the top of the page (do not confuse this with the “Leaderboards” button very top of the team member listing), then click/tap “+ New Leaderboard”. That brings up the “Create Leaderboard” screen, where the Name, Description, Leaderboard type and any optional Target amount may be input.

Weekly or Seasonal Leaderboards

Leaderboards may be designated as Weekly or Entire Season. Weekly leaderboard are continuously updated for stats that are generated during that week only (starting and ending Sunday midnight EST). Leaderboards for past weeks are also always visible to team members. Entire Season leaderboards are continuously updated during the season.

Shot Type Selection

Specify what types of shots should be included in the leaderboard: All shots, Free throws only, 3-pointers only or Specific drills. If Specific drills is selected, then a new “Drills” box will appear. Click or tap “Choose any number of drills” and select one or more drills from the list of all drills that appears. To de-select a drill, just click or tap it again. Selected drills will have check marks and will be included in the leaderboard rankings.

Cumulative vs. Single Drill

Use the “Cumulative” checkbox if you want every drill that is shot during the week or season to be ranked as though they were all combined into a single drill. Without checking the “Cumulative” checkbox, results from only single drills will be used for the leaderboard rankings.

Cumulative Example: If Linda completes two “Free Throw 100” drills with shooting percentages of 80% and 10% and Sarah completes the same two drills with percentages of 50% for each, then Linda (80%) will be ranked higher in a non-cumulative leaderboard than Sarah (50%), since only single drills are ranked; whereas, Sarah will rank higher (50%) than Linda (45%) in a cumulative leaderboard where percentage is calculated as though the two drills were a single one.

Time-Based Leaderboards

Leaderboards with time (Shoot for N Seconds) selected as the Leaderboard type are slightly different than other leaderboard types. When a “Target” value is specified for this Leaderboard type, the value is the number of makes rather than the number of shots, which is the target value for all other leaderboard types. Also, if the Cumulative checkbox IS NOT checked, then the time it takes to reach a target number of makes in a single drill will be ranked from shortest to longest. In this case, a target number of makes is required, otherwise, the leaderboard will not be created. If the Cumulative checkbox IS checked, then the cumulative time across multiple drills will be ranked from longest to shortest. In this case, a target number of makes is recommended, but optional.

Time-Based Example: Let’s assume a coach defines two leaderboards: A) time-based non-cumulative leaderboard with minimum of 25 makes and B) time-based cumulative leaderboard with minimum of 60 makes. Let’s also assume Linda completes a “Free Throw 100” drill and reaches the target of 25 makes in 200 seconds with a total of 50 makes in 500 seconds by the end of the drill. Sarah completes the same drill with 25 makes in 150 seconds and 75 makes in 400 seconds. Sarah will be ranked higher than Linda in leaderboard A, since she reached the target in less time and Linda will not be ranked at all in leaderboard B, since she did not reach the target minimum number of makes. If Linda had made 10 more shots, then she would be ranked higher than Sarah in leaderboard B, since she shot longer than Sarah.

To complete a Team Leaderboard design, click or tap the “Create” button.

How do I set a Goal in the Swish-Hoop™ Coach’s App for our players?

Goals are drills or workouts with a specified level of performance to reach within a particular time frame. Within the Coach’s App, they may be set by coaches or other Team Admins for any of their team members. Team members who have not been designated as Team Admins cannot create new goals for others. When a goal is reached or the time to achieve it has expired, a message and email is sent to the goal setter and target user. To set a goal, first the set of target players is selected from the Roster screen. Then click/tap “Goals” from the Team Admin menu bar near the top of the page, then click/tap “+ Create New Goal”. That brings up the “Create Player Goals” screen, where the start and end dates, drill/workout assignment, type of goal and level (Goal Amount) to be reached is specified. It is recommended that a Note be included in every goal. All goals for team members may be seen in the Goals List, accessed from the Team Admin menu bar on the Roster page and a selection of ”Goal”, then “Goal List”.

How do I delete or change a Goal that I no longer want?

Once a Goal has been set, only the person who the Goal is for may change or delete it (coaches and Team Admins cannot change or delete Goals for their players, only create them). This may be done by the player in the Swish Hoop™ Player App on a mobile device. See here for FAQs related to deleting a goal.

What is an Alarm in the Swish-Hoop™ Coach’s App and how do I set them?

Think of Alarms like being able to set a programmable alarm clock. They may be set by coaches or other Team Admins for any of their team members. Team members who have not been designated as Team Admins cannot create new Alarms for others. Alarms can be programmed to alert users one or more days a week at particular times between a start date and an end date. When an Alarm goes off, a message and email is sent to the user. To set an Alarm, first the set of target players is selected from the Roster screen. Then click/tap “Alarms” from the Team Admin menu bar near the top of the page, then click/tap “+ Create New Alarm”. That brings up the “Create Player Alarms” screen, where the start and end dates, Alarm time, and Days of the week are specified. It is recommended that a Note be included in every Alarm. All Alarms for team members may be seen in the Alarm List, accessed from the Team Admin menu bar on the Roster page and a selection of ”Alarm”, then “Alarm List”.

How do I delete an Alarm that I no longer want?

Once an Alarm has been set, only the person who the Alarm is for may change or delete it (coaches and team admins cannot change or delete Alarms for their players, only create them). Alarms can only be deleted by the target user by logging into their web account at app.swishhoop.com, tap Alerts along the top menu, find the Alarm they want to change and tap EDIT, then delete or change the Alarm. How do I add a new group?

The Swish Hoop system will automatically define several groups for each user including: Folllowers, Following, Recorders and each Team on which you belong; however, you may want to define your own groups for sharing your accomplishments or other reasons. To define a new group, click/tap Groups at the top menu, then the “+ Create Group” button at the upper right. Input the group name and check the Share checkbox to designate they will receive any shared stats when you hit the Share button within any part of the mobile Player App.

How do I leave text comments on a Player’s shooting or dribbling?

Any user designated as a Head Coach, Assistant Coach or an Admin can initiate comments on any player’s shot or dribbling video. Once initiated, the player in the video can also leave comments back to the coaches that left the original feedback. Comments may only be left for sessions that include a video recording. To initiate a text comment to a video (Coaches and Admins only), first select a session from the list of recorded player sessions that has videos associated with it. This is easily identified by a video camera icon just to the left of the “View” button for sessions that include video recordings. Tap or click “View” and select the shot (a green or red square or circle for shooting sessions) where you wish to leave a comment. Under the video image will be an “Add Feedback” button. Tap or click that and type in the comment you wish to leave. Type your message in the white box under the “Comment:” line and tap/click the “Post Comment” button when finished. You, as the author, will automatically be associated with the comment and a message will be sent to the player for whom you left the comment.

How do I leave graphical feedback (telestration) on a Player’s shooting or dribbling?

Any user designated as a Head Coach, Assistant Coach or an Admin can initiate telestration feedback (drawings and annotation on top of video images) on any player’s shot or dribbling video. Once initiated, the player in the video can also leave comments back to the coaches that left the original feedback. Comments and telestration may only be left for sessions that include a video recording. To initiate the addition of an overlaid drawing or text feedback to a video (Coaches and Admins only), first select a session from the list of recorded player sessions that has videos associated with it. This is easily identified by a video camera icon just to the left of the “View” button for sessions that include video recordings. Tap or click “View” and select the shot (a green or red square or circle for shooting sessions) where you wish to leave feedback. Telestation (graphical feedback) may only be left at a single paused time location in the video. Once telestration is left at a particular point in the video, upon video playback by others, the video will automatically pause and show the telestration. To input telestration feedback, first play the video (tap/click on the play icon) and pause it at the precise point where you would like to leave feedback. It may be helpful to use the time slider, slow-motion speed or the -1/+1 frame controls under the video image to target the precise time point for pausing. Under the paused video image will be a “Telestrate” button. Tap or click that button and the following set of annotation tools will appear.

  • Freehand drawing - Choose the pencil tool to make any type of freehand drawing in the video
  • Straight Arrow – Choose the arrow tool, then click and drag the cursor from the back of the arrow to the point of the arrow
  • Straight Line – Choose the line tool, then click and drag the cursor from the start to the end of the line
  • Text – Choose the “A” text annotation tool, then double click on the text to overwrite the default text and input the message you want
  • Color Palette – Choose the color for the selected drawing tool or text.
  • Size Palette – Choose the size icon for either the line width or text size you want to use.
  • Hand Icon – Choose the Hand tool to select, move, rotate or resize the graphical entities or text that you have input onto the video. Multiple entities may be selected by holding the SHIFT key while clicking/tapping. Once selected with the Hand tool, one or more entities may also be deleted by clicking/tapping the “Delete Selected Objects” button.

Tap/click the “Save” button when finished. You, as the author, will automatically be associated with the telestration and a message will be sent to the player for whom you left the feedback. Multiple telestrations may be included in a single video, but must be separated by two or three video frames (about 0.1 seconds).

How do I delete comments or graphical feedback (telestration) from videos?

Only the author of a comment or telestration may delete it. When viewing a video with comments or telestations, a red “Delete” button will appear to the right of the comment or telestration in the list below the video image for your comments only. Click or tap that button to delete the comment or telestration.

How do I find the sessions and shots with comments or graphical feedback (telestration)?

On any Stats screen that shows a list of sessions, those that have either comments or telestrations will have a comment icon to the left of the “View” button. A solid comment icon signifies that the comment or telestration has not yet been viewed by you and an outlined icon means that it has been viewed by you. Within the single-session Stats screen (appears after “View” is clicked/tapped), the individual shots that have comments or telestrations show a comment icon within the green or red squares or circles.

How do I designate a team member as a Team Admin?

Team Admins are able to edit team and player information and create and share new drills, leaderboards and goals and alarms for others. Only highly responsible individuals should be designated as Team Admins, as administrative capabilities can damage the integrity of the team’s data. Any Team Admin can designate any other team member as a Team Admin (or remove such designation). To do so, locate the team member on the team roster page and click or tap the Edit button to the right of the team player listing. At the bottom of the Edit Team Member screen, check the box next to “Team Admin” to make the member a Team Admin or uncheck it to remove the designation.

How do I include/exclude a coach or other team member from team stats and leaderboard listings?

Typically, Coaches and Assistant Coaches will not be included in team stats or team leaderboards; however, if a team member is both a Coach and player you may want to include them, or if a player is recovering from an injury, you may not want to include them. Any Team Admin can designate whether stats from any team member should be included in team stats and leaderboards. To change how a team member’s stats are treated, locate the team member on the team roster page and click or tap the Edit button to the right of the team player listing. Near the bottom of the Edit Team Member screen, check or uncheck the box next to “Include in Stats.” Players whose stats are counted within team stats and team leaderboards will have a small line-graph icon under their name in the roster screen. For counting or excluding stats of specific player on a more frequent basis, the checkbox to the left of their name on the Team Roster screen should be utilized.
